Covid-19 Taco Bell’s menu annihilation, one item at a time

Posted on Jul 21, 2020

Disclaimer: I can’t believe this needs to be said, but please don’t get mad at fast food employees over menu changes. Seriously. The people making and serving your food have no control over this, and there are even plenty of them just as upset as you are.

Taco Bell, why have you seen fit to forsake us? We were so kind to you, weren’t we? During this whole fucked up pandemic, we ate at you loyally, and you sustained us so kindly. Was that not enough for you? What have we done to stir up such resentment in you? Why are you doing this to us?

A post on /r/LivingMas (Reddit’s board for Taco Bell fans) brought forth a rumor that Taco Bell would be making some… changes to their menu. No, they’re not adding anything new. They’re ripping the menu to shreds. Absolutely decimating it! Taco Bell has decided, in its infinite wisdom, to take apart some of the best things that they have to offer. Why? What are they thinking? We’re going to break down these rumors one piece at a time over the jump.

Paula’s Crafting Corner: A cardboard dice tower!

Posted by palabomeno on Jul 16, 2020

I love gaming equipment of all kinds. For some reason I’m very obsessed with the tools used to play a lot of common games: playing cards, billiard balls, dominoes, and especially dice. I can’t claim to be a serious dice collector, but I love looking at images of pretty dice on the internet and thinking about unusual dice shapes. One of my favorite accessories for dice is the dice tower.

So what is a dice tower? To put it shortly, a dice tower is a device used to help with rolling dice. This is accomplished using a box with offset ledges inside it. You drop your dice into the top of the tower, they bounce off the ledges, and come out perfectly rolled! This helps ensure that the roll is more random than just throwing the dice on the table, keeping the dice honest and preventing any “unlucky” dice or potential cheats from ruining your game.

Sound good to you? Well, what if I told you that you could build your own dice tower out of stuff you probably have hanging around your own home? Impossible, you say? Well, I don’t like your incredulous tone. Hit the jump and let’s learn how to build our own dice tower out of household materials… together!

Trying goat meat at the Tandoor Restaurant

Posted on Jul 15, 2020

You may have heard of the Gandhi Mahal, an Indian restaurant in Minneapolis that was burned down in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. They now have a fundraiser for the rebuilding fees you can donate to, and have stood in support of the protests.

We had eaten at the Gandhi Mahal before, and found the food there excellent. It was a sobering reminder for us of just how real the whole event was. It was also a reminder for us that the Gandhi Mahal is actually really great. We don’t eat at our local Indian restaurants as often as we should, which is a huge mark of shame for us. This train of thought is what brought us to an even more local place in Bloomington: equal parts ‘a desire to help’, and ‘a deep anxiety that local food will be lost in the pandemic’.

We deem Hylics 2 the weirdest game of 2020

Posted on Jul 2, 2020

Hylics 2 is a JRPG-style game made by Mason Lindroth and released on June 22, 2020.

Hylics 2 was probably our most-anticipated game in many, many years. The first Hylics is one of our top games of all time , and the announcement that there would be a sequel in 2018 lit a fire under us. Mason Lindroth had been posting teasers since 2016, assuredly having begun work on Hylics 2 shortly after the first game was finished, but being able to piece together that his new work was for a greater purpose showed that Hylics 2 was going to be something massive.

The game was initially given a Summer 2019 release date - a date that Mason admitted was overly optimistic - and the wait continued on. Now it’s Summer 2020, and Hylics 2 is finally in our hands.

Animal Crossing needs a Gay Wedding Season

Posted on Jun 25, 2020

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a gay game. We’re not going to beat around the bush with that! It’s gay. If you play it, you’re gay. We’re not accepting arguments. Gay people love this game. Gay people love having their little animal friends and building an adorable little house and dressing up in silly costumes.

But the game is missing a quintessential part of being gay: getting married. In June, there’s been a “Wedding Season” event where you can help the alpacas Reese and Cyrus celebrate their anniversary with photographs. But Reese and Cyrus are - shock horror - straight. We can’t abide by this. How dare they put heterosexuals in our fun game! During Pride Month of all months! Disgusting.

So we’ve tried to throw together our own way of handling a potential future Wedding Season. We think we’ve come to a few conclusions that everybody will like, and nobody will hate. Let’s get married!

Top 7 Fallout New Vegas gay moments

Posted on Jun 23, 2020

Fallout: New Vegas is the greatest video game ever made. We’re not willing to entertain arguments on that. Yes, the original two Fallout games were very good, very good indeed, but New Vegas has accessibility on its side that we feel gives it an edge over the originals. It is the true Fallout 3, and we don’t even want to dirty our blog talking about Fallout 4 or 76. FNV is the game of kings and philosophers. People are still arguing to this day what the best ending path is. Can you say that about Fallout 3?

But there’s one thing that makes Fallout: New Vegas stand head and shoulders above the rest of its own series. It’s the first game that allowed you to actually be gay! Fallout 2 was the first game ever produced that allowed you to be gay married, but New Vegas ups the bar by letting you be gay right out the gate. From the moment you first level up, you’ll be offered one of two perks depending on gender: Cherchez la Femme or Confirmed Bachelor.

The main benefit of making your character gay is that they do more damage to enemies of the same sex, for some reason, but the real reward is the sometimes-hilarious dialogue trees that being gay offers. The Fallout series has always been a game with comedy at its heart, and New Vegas isn’t afraid to make being gay hilarious. We’ve composed a list of our top favorite moments that being gay in Fallout: New Vegas provides.
