This month I had the pleasure of seeing the finale for The Amazing Digital Circus in theatres, an experience so moving that I nearly purchased a novelty popcorn bucket over it. I have a feeling I’ll be bringing this series with me to my deathbed.
That’s why today I’m reviewing all of the Caines that have been made by fans for the new Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. That’s right, ALL of them! At least all of the ones that have been published on TomodachiShare. I’ll be sure to credit each individually.
Caine by Laly_481
The first Caine ever submitted to TomodachiShare was Caine by Laly_481. And isn’t he just a funny little fellow? I think this is one of the Caine Miis that looks the most like a toy.
This Caine has fully facepainted eyes. If you’re unfamiliar, this means that his eyes are a static texture, and as such do not blink.
He’s a Confident Leader and attracted to all genders. He lives on Purgatory Island and is interested in making people stay with me.

This was the second Caine Mii. This one’s a little more ambitious in the perspective department, and we’ve got his irregularly-sized eyes. And his little hat! He’s also pansexual. Other than that, we don’t get any other information about this fellow – not even an ingame picture of him.

First off, that is their username. Secondly, check out the detail in this one!
The description says “Today, we will be exploring this abandoned island where a magic clothing store melts everyone’s brains!”, which is I’m assuming Caine’s summary of Tomodachi Life’s island. I did try googling this just to make absolutely sure that it wasn’t referencing something (thanks, OCD), but the first result was Smash Mouth’s All Star.
SomeAsian does have a YouTube account where they’ve uploaded footage of their island, including their poor Caine getting chased around by some kind of creature from some other game I don’t care about, though he is listed as asexual. Will you take this Caine onto your island and save him from whatever situation is happening here? Or will you leave him to his new life?

He looks like he could take a big bite! But let’s just take a minute to appreciate the effort that went into this lovely boy. Tee ✧ is very talented and has a lot of other nicely facepainted Miis. My favorite is their Autism Creature, which doesn’t really showcase their talents, but is just so goddamn funny to look at.
This Caine is interested in emotional damage. Watch out, ladies! Never mind, there is no need to watch out because he is asexual.

He supposedly has “a functioning mouth”, which is… intimidating and I have no idea what on earth they could be implying, since nearly all of his head is facepaint. This Caine is quick, moderately polite, energetic, somewhat serious, VERY quirky, and will date just about anybody.

Regardless of his beauty, he is asexual, and that is all we get to know about him. I guess he must be a private sort!
Hnnr has also made a Jax, who is similarly greasy and looks like he could slip and slide into my living room.

Coincidentally, this is all the description you could ever need.
He is asexual. Cotton also seems to believe that Caine would have maxed-out honesty, which is an interesting interpretation for a character who literally does lie. I guess this is a problem with the Polite vs Honest dichotomy Tomodachi Life proposes – you can be honest while not being an asshole, after all.

Okay, it’s time to get into Caineology. If you’re a passive watcher of the show but not really that invested in it, you might still have noticed that Caine feels – and looks – a little different now, especially when Episode 1 footage is shown.
This is my headcanon, but I think it’s a reasonable one: over the course of the series, Caine has begun the process of self-domestication. It’s known now that he’s built his form as an interpretation of the human world, so it makes sense to me that after given enough time, he would begin to model himself in a way to make himself look less threatening.

I haven’t heard of this artist before, but a cursory Google search checks out. I love the detail that went into this one! And it feels a bit rare at this point that people remember to make his eyes different sizes.

This Mii does highlight a problem I have with the game itself, which is that facepaint can only go so far when the heads are just too tall. Paintedintegrity ran into this with their Jax Mii, where your options are the paper plate mask or Megamind Jax.
This one comes with personality traits: Scrungly Caine is quick, honest, energetic, somewhat serious, and very quirky. I’ll still disagree on the honesty front, but the rest sounds right!

Now this is a fun one! It’s like semi-humanized. I like the usage of the eyebrows, how it melds into the white lock of the hair, how the hair makes an eye shine. It’s very inspired.

They must have been really proud of this one, because they submitted it twice. I wonder if this one was directly inspired by the previous Caine. I really enjoy this for a more traditional Mii!

This one is clearly inspired by Tee ✧’s – the description says as much – but it’s also clearly been hand-drawn and has its own funky flavor. We’ve got more crooked eyes. This person has opted to give him canine teeth, which always makes me laugh because he does Not have them. He also doesn’t have his hat! Regardless, he’s a lovely Caine.

This is a cute one! He is very kawaii! I really like the usage of the hat to distract from his huge, bald head. The details are also very pleasing, and I almost wish we got a screenshot, but the crispy photo has a charm of its own.

This is another light-makeup Caine Mii. And I’m feeling twisted about it.
It works. It does. If I squint. But if I focus my eyes, he looks like a gore clown. And really, that’s a good descriptor of Caine anyway, so this might be one of the best Miis for sheer interpretation. But … the gore clown is a little scary.
