Today is the Summer Solstice! This is the longest day of the year, and the official beginning of the Summer season – as well as one of the most important dates of the year for pagans. The Solstice (Litha, if you practice a Germanic paganism or are a Wiccan) is the height of the year, where all life is in full bloom and are filled with the spirit of renewal.
ASSOCIATIONS: Today marks the beginning of the year where you can enjoy life to the fullest. Stay out late, get yourself an ice cream, or enjoy the flowers blooming. Summer, to us, is the season of excess and we try to make it a point to live up to that every year.
Financially, Summer is the period of time where your saving should be paying off. Over the Winter, and through the Spring, you’ve been pinching your pennies while you look forward to what the next year could bring. Well, it’s time for you to stop waiting and reach out for it! I’m not advising you to spend unwisely, of course… but also you should be spending unwisely. It is Summer.
To forecast for the upcoming Summer, I’ve drawn a three card tarot reading.
The first card is The Hermit. This card stresses the importance of solitude and introspection. This being the first card for a Summer reading sets an unusual tone. Normally the Summer is a time for excitement, but the cards seem to be saying that we should be keeping to ourselves and focusing more upon personal matters.
The second card is The Magician. This one is more like what I expect to see for Summer. The Magician is a person at the height of their potential, exactly as the Summer is the height of the year. A Magician is willing to take action in the face of any danger and get the exact results they need. The future is nothing but opportunity!
The final card is the Ace of Swords. Another aggressive card, this Ace is all forward action and cutting power – sometimes to a fault. It encourages us to be forceful in the extreme, and to push towards our goals without hesitation or mercy. It can be difficult to live up to the standards of the Ace of Swords – and sometimes simply irrational to – but it is still one of the weightiest cards in the deck.
In total, I recommend a plan of direct self-improvement over the Summer. Now is the time to begin whatever kind of self-care you have been putting off, be it a new exercise routine or an indulgence. You are the most important person in your own life and you deserve to be treated as such. Live a little! It’s Summer, baby!
